All-time favorite cartoon shows in the 90s

Over the years, we have seen so many animations served right before our very own eyes. From the small screen to big theaters we have witnessed an evolution in the way they are being delivered. The animations have changed and are being restructured to perfectly adapt to its ever-changing audience.

Time really does gush swiftly than we could imagine. We are now in the 21st century where everything is highly digitized. And as new animations are produced and catered to us I could not help but remember the cartoons I grew up during my childhood years. They may not possess a brilliant color quality or be offered in high definition resolution in our screens but they display the same level of entertainment value with what we currently have now.

Cartoons in the 90’s

Here is the list of cartoon shows I considered precious and part of my formative years before I ended up loving anime.

1) Rugrats (1990-2006)

Who would not love to see these cute little fellas? They’re adorable and charming in every aspect. It’s odd yet very entertaining to see how these babies communicate in their own way. It simply narrates a story in a baby’s perspective and how babies view things differently in life. And more importantly, it reminds us how to be like a child – adventurous and carefree. Additionally, the show is fully packed with humor.

2) X-Men (1992)

This is definitely a cartoon we all have watched in our younger years. Just by hearing the name alone, we all could agree that it would send flashes of images of the characters or should I say mutants that we idolized. I know, upon hearing the word ‘X-Men’ and it passes through your inner ear it sends hundreds or thousands of information to your brain. And yes, you then start to remember your favorite mutant character and tries to revisit your childhood. How useless phones are for Professor Xavier or how uncool your visors are compared to Cyclops visor.

3) Beavis and Butthead (1993)

MTV’s hilarious depiction of two teenage boys having absolutely different views in life. This is a bit awkward of a choice hence, there’s a lot of violence and other visually gross scenes involved in the show. However, one thing unique about Beavis and Butthead is the way it steps out from the conventional type of cartoons made at that time. Anyway, the bravery paid off as they were very much well embraced by teens and young adults alike. On their defense, I find the show entertaining rather than disturbing because that is what the show is all about – to entertain.

4) Dexter’s Laboratory (1996)

An interesting story of a third-grader boy genius and his super fun inventions. The story mainly revolves around the everyday life of our protagonist – Dexter. He has this vehemently secret lab under his house that his parents are unaware about. He has his sister Dee Dee who seems to exist to destroy whatever she touches especially Dexter’s newly created inventions. On another note, I definitely love the voice actor behind Dexter’s German-styled accent.

5) Spongebob Squarepants (1999)

Before completely entering the year 2000, I believe this one is worth mentioning – Spongebob and his friends. I consider this a breakthrough in terms of everything a cartoon can be. It has unique characters from a sponge, a starfish, a squid, a crab and even a squirrel. What makes it even more interesting is their unusual habitation that occurs at the bottom of the ocean known to them as Bikini Bottom. A single episode can make you crave for more as their daily interactions per given situations could either be fun or hilariously fun at all.

There you have it. The cartoons that I have religiously watched during the 90s. It is quite nostalgic though writing about the shows you love accompanied by a little bit of a surreal feeling of being young again.
