With its most recent launch in the Philippines last February 9, 2018, ASUS added another member of the ZenFone 4 family of smartphones to the market. Tagged as the mobile device for the game changers, with its campaign hashtag #4TheGameChangers, the new ASUS ZenFone 4 Max Lite is yet gaining a fan base with its big battery capacity and satisfying results on mobile photography amidst its base price of ₱7,995.00 during its release announcement.

Following the footsteps on the Zenfone 4 Max last year, and the newly announced Zenfone Max Plus (M1), the ASUS ZenFone 4 Max Lite is also a deserving placer on the pantheon of ASUS’ Battery King line of Zenfone smartphones. In the box is a new smartphone with 4,100mAh battery that is supported with fast charging and noting the reverse technology capability to charge up another device via the OTG cable.

The budget entry-level smartphone device is truly for the game changers and we tested its camera system both using the main (dual lens back cameras) with a 120-degree wide view angle lens and the front-facing camera with soft LED flash.

Aside from the fact that the dual lens camera system can produce these photo modes, it can also be set to a Portrait shooting mode. It enables an all-new depth-of-field effect by blurring the background to make the subject stand out. Here’s a sample:

Built-in camera filters are also available for a more dramatic look on photos. Eight (8) filters options can be chosen prior to taking a photo via the camera app: Hipster, Faded, Blush, Warm, Vibrant, Grayscale, Retro and Nostalgic.

The 8-megapixel front camera is surprisingly flexible in terms of taking self-portraits. Even though the front camera system only has a single lens camera, it is still capable of taking photos in Portrait Mode, similar to the Zenfone 4 Selfie during our testing.

Here’s a sample photo of myself using the front-facing camera in Wide-Angle and Portrait Modes turned on.

Final Review and Conclusion

Because of its ample battery power of 4100mAh, the ASUS ZenFone 4 Max Lite is very fun to use when you are on-the-go while connected to the Internet and taking photos for travel and adventure. It is also ideal for casual use while you stroll downtown with family and friends and take selfies and wefies with the front-facing camera. The 5.2-inch HD display is easy to hold without having too much to suffer just by using one hand.

The ASUS ZenFone 4 Max Lite is indeed still a Max despite the actual size both hardware and software. It’s very pocket-friendly (as well as budget-friendly) and it feels solid in the hands due to its premium metallic design with colors in Deepsea Black, Rose Pink, and Sunshine Gold.

As we have mentioned during our first impression review, what makes the ASUS ZenFone 4 Max Lite better is its Portrait mode on both the main (back) camera and the front camera considering its entry-level, budget-friendly price tag.
