In honor of the late Governor of Cebu and the 4th President of the Republic of the Philippines, Sergio Osmeña, Sr., September 9 is Osmeña Day, considered a Special non-working holiday in the whole province of Cebu and its component cities. It was made official through the declaration of Republic Act 6953.

[REPUBLIC ACT No. 06953]

AN ACT DECLARING SEPTEMBER NINE OF EVERY YEAR A SPECIAL NON-WORKING PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN THE CITY OF CEBU AND THE PROVINCE OF CEBU WITH ITS COMPONENT CITIES AND A SPECIAL WORKING PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY, IN HONOR OF THE LATE PRESIDENT SERGIO OSMENA, SR., AMENDING THEREBY BATAS PAMBANSA BILANG 937

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Congress assembled:

SECTION 1. September Nine of every year is hereby declared a special non-working public holiday in the City of Cebu and the Province of Cebu with its component cities and a special working public holiday in the rest of the country, in honor of the late President Sergio Osmena, Sr.

SEC. 2. Batas Pambansa Bilang 937 is hereby amended accordingly.

SEC. 3. This Act shall take effect fifteen (15) days following its publication in two (2) national newspapers of general circulation.
