In a significant step toward enhancing grassroots healthcare, BDO Foundation has completed the rehabilitation of five rural health units (RHUs) in Bohol. These upgraded facilities now cater to over 100,000 residents, ensuring accessible and improved primary healthcare.

The rehabilitated RHUs include the Candijay Primary Care Facility, Dimiao Primary Care Facility, Mabini Primary Care Facility, Cortes Primary Care Facility, and Duero Rural Health Unit. Local government leaders and municipal health officers supported the initiative, which focused on improving both interiors and exteriors to provide a welcoming, healing environment for patients and health workers.
BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito expressed the organization’s commitment, stating: “We hope that this humble contribution of BDO Foundation to the communities will help the local government units (LGUs) and health workers improve their capability in delivering basic health services to their constituents.”
Transforming RHUs for Community Health
The initiative aligns with BDO Foundation’s advocacy to strengthen healthcare systems at the grassroots level. By renovating these RHUs, the foundation aims to address the challenges faced by local communities, particularly in accessing quality primary healthcare.
Since launching its program in 2012, the foundation has renovated 23 RHUs in Bohol and a total of 187 health centers nationwide. These efforts directly support the capacity of local government units to improve healthcare delivery, making essential services more accessible to underserved populations.
Local Leaders Highlight Impact
At the turnover ceremony for the Dimiao Primary Care Facility, municipal health officer Dr. Lloyd Lyle Ravidas shared his gratitude: “We are grateful to BDO, BDO Network Bank and BDO Foundation for the help that they’ve given to our community. You have not just given us a beautiful building, but also a dignified health facility to better serve the people.”
Dr. Ravidas emphasized how these upgrades create a more respectful and efficient space for both health workers and patients, reinforcing the foundation’s transformative impact.
