Held on October 16, 2024, the Kasanggayahan Festival in Sorsogon drew participants from across the Philippines to celebrate and compete in the country’s National Festival of Festivals. As part of this year’s event, which commemorated both the festival’s golden anniversary and Sorsogon’s rich heritage milestones, Lumad Basakanon from Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City’s Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu Festival represented the pride of the Visayas.
Lumad Basakanon’s electrifying performance not only secured them the overall championship title but also won them prestigious awards for Best in Costume and Best in Moving Choreography. As shared by Arkel Castañarez, one of the group’s dance masters, the champion prize amounted to ₱4 million, along with ₱200,000 for choreography and ₱200,000 for costume design.
