In a recent Brand Summit, Shopee Philippines’ Public Relations and Corporate Affairs Head, Erin Tagudin, unveiled the platform’s enhanced efforts to guarantee product authenticity.

“Brands under Shopee Mall have undergone rigorous verification to ensure that every product sold is 100% authentic,” Tagudin stated during the event.

Shopee Mall customers are now entitled to a 300% money-back guarantee if they unknowingly purchase counterfeit items. Additionally, the return period has been extended from seven to 15 days to make the process more convenient.

A New Level of Security for Filipino Shoppers

Since April 2024, Shopee Mall has maintained a perfect record with 0% counterfeit reports for brands and products under its exclusive label. Shopee Mall’s “rigorous security team” plays a crucial role in achieving this, ensuring that vendors who attempt to sell counterfeit goods are immediately banned. Tagudin also shared that offenders face severe penalties, making it impossible for them to re-enter the platform.

“We have a huge team calibrating the products. If sellers receive penalties more than once, they are banned,” she said, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to consumer safety.

In addition to this, the e-commerce platform features both local and international brands under the Shopee Mall label, fostering confidence among Filipino shoppers by offering only verified products. The dedicated Shopee Mall shopping space makes it easy for customers to identify these trusted sellers.

E-Commerce Growth in the Philippines

Shopee’s efforts coincide with the impressive growth of the Philippine e-commerce market, which is projected to expand by 19.6% in 2024. By 2028, the market is expected to continue its upward trend, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.2%.

According to Tagudin, this growth stems from increased online shopping preferences and the rising purchasing power of middle-income Filipinos. Popular categories include fashion, with a year-on-year growth exceeding 60%, followed by makeup and fragrances (40%), and mobile gadgets (30%).

As part of its evolving role in the digital economy, Shopee Mall is also complying with the Philippine government’s tax regulations. Tagudin noted that Shopee has been working closely with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to ensure that online sellers adhere to withholding tax requirements, further reinforcing their commitment to transparency and compliance.

“We worked together with the BIR to ensure compliance, and we educated our sellers on how to do it,” she added.
