Travellers International plans new integrated resort in Cebu
Travellers International Hotel Group is gearing up for a significant expansion in Cebu, Philippines, with plans to establish an integrated resort valued at ₱16.9 billion (US$300 million). This move is part of the company’s strategy to diversify its gaming and leisure portfolio across the country.
A new Integrated Resort sets to boost Cebu’s tourism and economy
Having developed Newport World Resorts (formerly Resorts World Manila), the Philippines’ first integrated tourism resort, Travellers International aims to replicate this success with its upcoming project, Mactan World Resorts. Spanning 30 hectares within the Mactan Newtown township—currently being developed by Megaworld Corp—the resort will be located just 20 minutes from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, ensuring accessibility for both local and international travelers.
Strategic Expansion in Cebu
The first details of the ambitious project were revealed by SunStar Cebu, following a presentation to local officials by Travellers’ Executive Director, Georgina Alvarez. The development has received considerable backing, with the local government recommending a “no objection” certificate from Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan to accelerate progress.
Mactan World Resorts will feature a luxury hotel, casino, and other high-end facilities, boosting Cebu’s tourism and economy. The project is expected to contribute ₱243 million (US$4.3 million) in real property and business taxes over five years.
Competitive Edge in Cebu
Alfred Benjamin R. Garcia, an analyst at AP Securities, explained that Cebu’s tourism pull and Mactan Newtown’s proximity to the international airport provide a competitive advantage for Travellers International. “Cebu ranks second after Manila in attracting inbound tourists, and its location will help draw in VIP clientele,” Garcia noted.
Cebu’s competitive casino market includes existing establishments such as NUSTAR Resort & Casino, and PH Resorts Group’s Emerald Bay, which is currently seeking additional funding for completion.

Future Growth Beyond Manila
Kevin Tan, CEO of Alliance Global Group (AGI) and Chairman of Travellers International, sees Cebu as a crucial part of the company’s expansion beyond the saturated Metro Manila market. “The opportunity for growth is outside of Metro Manila. New areas like Cebu offer prime opportunities for building infrastructure and facilities,” Tan explained in a recent interview with Inside Asian Gaming.
With strong competition and significant local support, Travellers International’s move into Cebu could mark a pivotal step in the company’s continued growth in the Philippine gaming and leisure industry.
