Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CPMPC), one of the biggest and multi-awarded cooperatives in the country, with more than 70,000 members nationwide, will launch additional 55 PeoplesJeep modern jeepneys to ply different routes in Metro Cebu.
PeoplesJeep: The modern jeepneys coming to the streets in Cebu
The launching and blessing ceremony was held on March 16, 2020, at the Open Parking Space at Blessed Sacrament Subdivision in Kagudoy Road, Brgy. Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu Philippines. This is by far the biggest launching event of modern jeepneys as the country gears up for the full implementation of the PUV modernization program, a flagship program of the Duterte Administration.
CPMPC will use the all-new Durabus Zhongtong Class 2 modern jeepney compliant with the DTI Philippine National Standards. It features a GPS, Speed Limiter, Front and Rear Cameras, and indoor TV for entertainment. All the units have air-conditioning systems and foam seats for a comfortable ride. It is also equipped with the required CCTV for security purposes.
CPMPC will also be able to promote a healthier and cleaner environment with the use of modern jeepneys powered by environmentally-compliant Euro 4/5 diesel engines, significantly reducing carbon and sulfur emissions. Payment of fare is also very easy and convenient with the implementation of the Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS), as required under the PUV modernization program. Cebu Peoples partners with AF Payments Inc., (Beep Cards), which is the leading AFCS provider in the country.
At present, 12 units are plying the Talamban to Colon with Route No. 13C.
CPMPC continues to support the PUV modernization program as it shares the same goal of providing safe, secure, comfortable and environment-friendly transportation every Filipino deserves.
