Marine Sports and Leisure celebrates 10th anniversary, receives citation award for environmental care
MSL’s mission over the decade is to promote and deliver the best water sports services to guests with the maximum safety and extraordinary experience they could ever have. They envision to be the leading watersports center internationally known for preserving the vitality of activities long into the future and to develop best guest services, maintain effectiveness, educate tourism aspects, promote safety measures on water activities, and to create sustainable tourism industry.
During its 10th anniversary celebration, the management and staff of Marine Sports and Leisure gathered at their Oceansports center at Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark. They have invited members of the press and digital media to share their success and stories over the years of operation for 10 years.
Mr. Yu Ki Taek, president of Marine Sports and Leisure, was accompanied by his family, members of the board, employees and distinguished guests and visitors. Hon. Junard “Ahong” Chan, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor, and his wife, Cindi, were also present during the event.
During a brief press conference, Mr. Yu Ki Taek was given an award handed to him by Mayor Chan of Lapu-Lapu City for his contribution to the city and his continued efforts to marine and environmental care.
He [Mr. Yu] has traveled to many Asian countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines as a Resort Developer searching for a location to develop. He came to Cebu in 2004 and studied the high and low tides of the Hilutungan Channel, particularly the Maribago area.
He discovered that the Maribago area where the Marine Sports and Leisure (MSL) is currently located is ideal because it is the area where low and high tide different is the lowest. The location was also considered because it is covered by Bohol and Olango islands.
Even though discovering the Hilutungan Channel as one of the best locations in the world for diving, its area was then unappreciated. At that time, Mr. Yu noticed that there no fishes living in the area and it was surrounded by garbage. This inspired him to improve the condition of the Hilutugan Channel and starting cleaning up the area for 8 months in 2009.
He also fed the fishes and planted corals together with his fellow Korean divers. He had the vision that by starting the cleanup, something good will turn out. Hence, the Marine Sports and Leisure was opened on that same year.
