With the existence of the internet, and the coming of the new mobile internet 5G technology to the Philippines, more and more users find ways to do different things to achieve their productivity at work or find information online. Here are some of the common activities people do differently with the help of the internet:
1) Shopping
A study conducted as early as 2015 found that 9 out of 10 Filipinos preferred online shopping. The same study found that convenience, cheaper prices, and special deals were the leading reasons for the respondents’ preference for online shopping. The market has rapidly grown since then.
The Philippines provided 30 percent of the social media buzz on online shopping in the Christmas season and special holiday sales for Black Friday and Single’s Day as early as September. 2) Banking
The primary concern of most Filipinos about online banking all boils down to security. Luckily, banks go the extra mile to make online transactions secure. For starters, banking websites are equipped with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology that secures the connection between your browser and the banking website. According to a recent PayPal survey in 2017, 25% of Filipino consumers are already using online payment methods in their everyday transactions.
Slowly but surely, Filipinos are finding out for themselves the benefits of online banking. It’s just that some of us need further nudging. To further convince the skeptics, we’re once again laying down the pros and cons of online banking.
It goes without saying that convenience is the main advantage of online banking. All you need is a desktop, a laptop, or a smartphone and an internet connection. A few clicks here and there and voila, you’re banking right where you are. You can now do basic transactions like balance inquiries, fund transfers, and bills payments without heading to the nearest bank.
3) News Reading
We see fewer people readily buying a subscription or going out of their way to look for a copy on the street, where years before – it was an easy decision to make and a reading habit difficult to break. Paper costs, electricity, and other overhead expenses go up sharply each year but not advertising revenue and circulation.
People are consuming more information today than ever before and they are impatient about getting it. They may not be reading daily or weekly newspapers as often, but they are finding out more about news and trends in a wider world at a faster speed, through the Internet, on their mobile phones, tablets, and iPads.

Yet four in ten (41%) millennials also say they would be embarrassed to admit that they had met their partner through online dating apps. A quarter (24%) of baby boomers say the same. However, two-thirds (66%) of all respondents say they would not think of a couple that met online any differently.
