A toast to mark Pink October at Rustan’s

Dressed in pink and holding their best teacups, over 60 cancer warriors and survivors from the ICanServe Foundation gathered virtually over a private afternoon tea affair hosted by Rustan’s Cebu called “Think Pink Tablescapes: Look Good, Feel Good at Home”. Some invited members from the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente were also present during the occasion. Award-winning chemist, philanthropist, and tablescaping¹ enthusiast Pinky Tobiano was the special guest speaker for the Pink October Breast Cancer Awareness Month event.

Tobiano, a cancer survivor herself, shared her passion for tablescaping and shared styling tips and techniques featuring vibrant flowers, and the timeless and feminine, fine English bone china set from the Miranda Kerr for Royal Albert collection.

“What’s important is we enjoy our afternoon tea together and the bonding moments especially in this quarantine. There are really a lot of rules [in drinking tea] but for me, what’s important is you’re enjoying each other’s company. We’re all survivors and warriors, what’s important is spending time together. That’s the beauty of life,” she shared.

Aside from the Royal Albert tea set, Tobiano also featured another favorite collection, the limited edition Bernardaud x Anita Magsaysay-Ho collection, which adds a local touch to her table setting. The online event also served as an avenue to virtually share the Rustan’s feeling of love and warmth, and for courageous women to gather and mark Pink October from the safety of their homes. In attendance were ICanServe Foundation’s Founder Cara Alipala, President Crisann Celdran, and Cebu coordinator, Mary Anne Alcordo-Solomon as well as the President of the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente, Emmanuel Tesalona.

“This [celebration] is really celebrating life, it gives us reasons as survivors to look forward to events like this and who would expect [that] in a pandemic we could do this tablescape with Ms. Pinky Tobiano,” said ICanServe Cebu coordinator, Mary Anne Alcordo-Solomon.

The event also marked the 15th year partnership between Rustan’s Cebu, the ICanServe Foundation, an organization that advocates early breast cancer detection through high impact information campaigns, and the Rotary Club of Fuente Cebu. Since 2005, Rustan’s has marked Pink October with regular beauty workshops and pampering sessions for ICanServe members. Their annual celebration kicked off this year last October 1 with the symbolic lighting of the Rustan’s Cebu façade in pink.
